Pioneer Services warns against collections scam
Scam artists using 'Pioneer Services' name trying to defraud consumers
In the scam, consumers receive a call from someone claiming to be from Pioneer Services. They then demand payment, yet cannot provide any account details, and in almost every case the caller has also been verbally abusive. A similar scam has led to a consumer alert from the Washington State Department of Financial Institutions, as well as from attorneys general in several other states.
Pioneer Services is not originating these calls and is aggressively investigating this hoax.
The company asks consumers who receive these calls to not share any personal information with the caller. Instead, consumers should try to gather as much information as possible—the phone number, the time of the call, etc.—and then immediately contact their state attorney general's fraud hotline to report the incident, as well as the Federal Trade Commission, which can be done online at www.ftc.gov/bcp/edu/microsites/phonefraud/report.shtml.
