Navy Admiral praises Pioneer Services for helping military families

By U.S. Navy Rear Admiral S. Frank Gallo (ret.)

Now more than ever, American families are struggling to meet their financial needs, whether it's paying the mortgage on time, sending children to college, decreasing credit card debt or even just buying groceries.

Military families are no exception, and often struggle even more during the times their loved ones are deployed.

Thankfully, organizations like Pioneer Services work to ease the financial burden on families and members of the Armed Forces. Pioneer Services provides responsible financial services and education that our service members deserve, and has done so for more than 20 years. During that time, Pioneer Services has helped more than 1.3 million military families and Department of Defense employees achieve their financial goals and improve their lives through free financial education programs, fast and affordable loans, and insurance products, and by supporting organizations that benefit the military community, including the Armed Services YMCA (ASYMCA).

Pioneer Services understands the importance of learning and practicing fiscal responsibility at every stage of life, so instead of just helping adults of military families, the organization offers free financial education programs to teach children about money management, savings and other relevant topics as well.

Every year in April, Pioneer Services teams with various ASYMCAs across the country to celebrate "Month of the Military Child." The organization offers a number of services to military parents and children at the ASYMCAs, including programs like "Friday Night Out," when parents get a few hours of free "babysitting" at the ASYMCA for children 12 and younger. During Friday Night Out, Pioneer Services gives children piggy banks, coloring books that teach about saving money and other goodies.

In the past, the organization has helped put children on the path toward financial independence by giving those with Pioneer Services piggy banks 50 cents for every "A" and 25 cents for every "B" on their report cards if they come into the Pioneer Services office.

Pioneer Services, the military banking division of MidCountry Bank, has received numerous awards in recent years for its outstanding work on behalf of our Armed Services members and their families. Most recently, the company was recognized in 2008 by the American Bankers Association, winning first place for its financial education materials.

In addition, Pioneer Services has been honored with a number of national awards. As one of 15 companies nationwide, Pioneer Services was given the Secretary of Defense Employer Support Freedom Award in 2005 for its support of associates serving in the National Guard and Reserves. Also in 2005, Pioneer Services received the Conspicuous Service Medal for its "patriotic support, loyalty, and devotion" to its associates who serve in the National Guard and Reserve.

Pioneer Services has been a proud sponsor of the Armed Services YMCA for six years.
